Aldicarb Sulfone in drinking water
348 active public water systems in 11 states had a Aldicarb Sulfone violation in the past three years, and 10 have one that is still unresolved.
You are on Tapcensus, an independent guide to the EPA compliance records of every public water system in the United States. This page explains Aldicarb Sulfone and lists the water systems whose records include a related violation. It does not show measured levels.

What it is and where it comes from
Aldicarb sulfone is a further oxidation product of aldicarb sulfoxide, formed as aldicarb continues to degrade in soil and groundwater. It is more persistent than aldicarb sulfoxide and can accumulate near previously treated agricultural soils. Like its parent compounds, it remains a concern in groundwater at legacy sites.
Health effects
Aldicarb sulfone inhibits acetylcholinesterase by the same mechanism as aldicarb and aldicarb sulfoxide. Acute toxicity includes cholinergic syndrome — nausea, excessive secretions, muscle weakness, and in high doses potential respiratory failure. Children and individuals with compromised nervous systems are most susceptible.
The standard and what a violation means
EPA limit: 0.002 mg/L (2 ppb).

About this data
A system is counted once if any of its violations in the past three years involved Aldicarb Sulfone, including monitoring and reporting lapses. Rules violated and status in the systems table are for the whole system, not Aldicarb Sulfone alone. Counts cover active systems in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The records are from EPA's data refresh of Oct 7, 2026; EPA refreshes this data quarterly, and states report to EPA with a lag of three to six months, so the newest violations may not appear yet.
