1,1,1-Trichloroethane violations in Minnesota

7 active public water systems in Minnesota had a 1,1,1-Trichloroethane violation in the past three years, 1 of them in the latest quarter of EPA's data. What 1,1,1-Trichloroethane is and why it matters.

Health effects: Chronic exposure to 1,1,1-trichloroethane affects the central nervous system (dizziness, incoordination) and can cause liver and cardiovascular effects at elevated doses. EPA has not classified it as a human carcinogen. It degrades in anoxic groundwater to 1,1-dichloroethylene and eventually vinyl chloride, which are more acutely toxic breakdown products.

About this data

A system is counted once if any of its violations in the past three years involved 1,1,1-Trichloroethane, including monitoring and reporting lapses. Rules violated and status in the table are for the whole system, not 1,1,1-Trichloroethane alone.

The Minnesota records are from EPA's data refresh of Oct 7, 2026; EPA refreshes this data quarterly, and states report to EPA with a lag of three to six months, so the newest violations may not appear yet.
